A few comments about Dom's photo of the manufacture mark. It appears the hat was made in "Гомель", that's Gomel', Belorussia. My research on 'Russian' Internet shows the hat was likely made at the KOMMINTERN textile factory. Here is a quote from their website: "From April 1928 the factory started to work as an independent company and at the opening of November 8, 1928 she was named "Comintern." During the Great Patriotic War the factory was evacuated to Ulyanovsk region, where teaming up with the Vitebsk factory "Profintern" [it] started to issue uniform[s]. After the war, the factory went into operation early in the second half of 1945." Source: oao-comintern.com/history.html Does it seem to you more seasoned collectors the hat might read, "40 г", thus year 1940 on the lower left side of the maker's key? Opinions?
