i find it weird that the 40г part of the stamp is so hard to read/not clear as the other parts.

Yes, a 1948 dated cap would be identical to a wartime example
I believe the regulation for piping on pilotki was cancelled in the latter months of 1941 - so a 1948 mfg date is out of the question.

I believe that Dom knows his USSR head gear very well. However the "56" just above shows no sign significant of wear. What a coincidence

PS: Note the absence of the cloth star which usually located behind the star-cockarde on officer's pilotki. I believe that this regulation was reserved for senior NCOs.

Well, unfortunately I wasn't able to get either of these caps They sold for more than I was willing to pay...
The Ushanka sold for $130, which wouldn't have been a bad price had it been in a bit better condition.
The Pilotka went for $377.
