I agree, it is a post war re-paint.
The only possibility that I can think of that "might" have had black paint in Soviet service, would have been Naval Infantry.
I still stand by my opinion that this is a Finnish re-paint.

Now, here are some pictures of my SScH-36 kaska.
This is the very dark (almost black) green.
Now these are the pictures of the Prairie Flower Leather Company replacement liner kit, as installed in my shell.

the inside is red primer..thanks for the info on the liner.we will get to the bottom of this black paint it may take a while.some red army specialist maybe?
My take on this, having collected RKKA material for almost 10 years, is that this helmet is repainted.
Cheers, Ade.
thanks ade..the helmet is in great shape anyway... im coming across the pond in july(if the vulcano is well behaved) to visit my relatives in manchester...cheers
When I discussed this project with Steffan, we agreed that even though the original design was poor, it was what it was, and so the repop had to copy it exactly.
He is now working on producing the later style of liner, and will offer them in both the SScH-36, and the model 39 shell style, since the basis of both liners is the same.

Hi Boridin
Is there a website or anything on these repro ssch liners?
Thanks
Reg
Will the size 4 repop lliner fit a smaller shell? Size 4 shells are a bitch to find in any condition?
There are also notable differences in the Ssh-36 cloth liner and the Ssh-39. Most obvious is the integral sawtoothed felt pad sewn into a 39 liner. The 36 lacks this, but instead has a rubber foam ring.
