    Default Vz 53?

I have, what I was told is a Vz 53, however after browsing this forum a while I noticed it lacked some of the Czech markings, such as the 2 crossed swords. Instead it has a small star stamped under the visor, and a 5 digit number stamped at the back.

    It reads: "1 33 08"

    The 8 is slightly faded.

I am certain that the liner is Czech.

Is this an old soviet helmet shell re-issued by the Czech army?
I can post pictures of the inside if need be.

Sounds like a Soviet made shell. Please post a pic of the liner.

    Cheers, Ade.

Here's a picture of the liner inside the helmet. I removed it earlier yesterday to clean out dust, and found a stamp on the inside.

Any way to date the shell/liner?

The rivet placements and stamps match.

Thanks Dom! Is there any way to tell when the shell was produced?

    Happy New Year!

hi nitram here's some pictures of my example for your interest it has russian star stamp on front peak and number stamp on rear of lid but no czech markings or crossed swords the lower rivit placements have no purpose at all ,regards jamesVz 53?Vz 53?Vz 53?

Wonder what the rivets were intended for.

    Thanks for the info

That is because the helmet shell was a former Ssh40. They have the rivets mounted low: whereas the Ssh39, which the Czech versions mimics, has the rivets placed high.
