Wartime SSh 40 with red star - opinions needed

Hi to all,
Here are the photos of SSh 40 I may be able to buy. For me it's ok but before buying I'd like to know your thoughts, especially regarding the star.
I’ll be very grateful for any opinion and comment.

The star looks like it's been deliberately scratched across each arm in about the same place on each. Have no clue as to why someone who have done this.

i think it would make sense if the star was applied via stencil...?

Such shape of star (with small breaks in arms) is quite common for Russian helmets (but mostly to models 36 and 39), and yes, they were stenciled.

yeah, otherwise there wouldn't be anything to hold the shape of the stencil... it would just be a big, solid red star.

I particularly like the way the guy doing it took the time and effort to carefully center the star....a little too much lunch hour vodka?
