Scholars, specialists, and those with intellectual curiosity have always been in the minority, in this hobby as well as in other endeavors...Don't lose heart, friends...there's so much knowledge here to be absorbed, and I personally prefer quality to quantity...
Keep in mind that February was also the month when most Christmas Credit Card Bills hit home...
No worries here...Keep up the great work, WRF is still the best resource on the Web....
cheers, Glenn

Think Dan has summed it up nicely, the whole collecting community thing has shifted some what over the past few years,I've noticed too that some items on big named websites are sitting around where as they used to move very quickly also there seems to be a lack of serious collectors prepared to pay decent cash for honest original gear, maybe be to do with financial costs but lately they all seem to want it but for almost nothing as i'm finding out................

I see myself a new collector (I am) and I am one of those many people just checking out the (sub)forums and not contributing to it. I am absorbing a lot of information from it, and that's it to be honest. The thing is, I don't see myself knowledgeable enough to give my opinion on 'real or fake' topics for example, at least not yet. I assume this goes for many of us. I can't help but speak out my huge admiration for 'the few' who know what they are talking about, who have been in this world for years. That's you Glenn, Dan and the people you listed in comment #7.
As for myself, I'm more a relic hunter than collector. I've had some futile digs for the last days now, but when something pops up I will post it.

I appreciate the items I view anywhere on this forum, but I usually don't comment on things I am unfamiliar with. Don't get me wrong, I read and soak up information, but I do it in silence unless I can add to the flow of information. I can't speak for others Ben but as for me don't think my silence means I am ungrateful. I enjoy this forum even if I don't comment as much.

Agree 1,000,000%. I lurk and learn and give kudo's where deserved. But I tend to be silent on advice if I can not with 95% accuracy back up my comments (which according to my wife is all the time and why she prefers that I keep my mouth shut LoL)

"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated
My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

Gents, dont take things the wrong way, I am not refering to regular members that look in on the threads, its the hundreds of non members that look in just for the info, I believe if they joined in and contributed (buckle collectors) then it would be a more learned place to be (hope that makes sense)

Agreed. I do feel this forum has gotten a little light on contributors. You always see the same names regularly posting and commenting. And then there are the trolls and rabble rousers that feel the need to grace us with their presence until kicked out. I suppose they can only be dealt with on a case by case basis, but as for the lack of solid contributors, I don't know what the solution is. Can't make people contribute, so what can ya do?

This goes back to my earlier comment of "Quality over Quantity"...One of my main pet-peeves with the other sites was the mindless babble of folks with hyper-inflated egos and bad manners...We don't have that here, and it is well with my soul...
Let it be the same people showing new treasures here then...They continue to be some of my best teachers.
cheers, Glenn

I view lot of threads that are of some interest. I check out the SS forum every day but I seldom buy an SS item, except for buckles. Most collectors have a few buckles but it isn't the area they focus on.

I suppose you're correct, Glenn. I do prefer the same individuals if it cuts out the mindless blabber witnessed on another forum. I'm not aware of anyone on this forum that possesses an ego that must be constantly fed with compliments and admiration. WRF does a fairly decent job keeping everyone on a level playing field and respect is shown all around.
