    Hi Markus, yes think you are right. I took a pin and picked a piece off of the flat side of the buckle, just a nick and it is zinc coloured underneath. So it is just really grubby but looks great. Thank you very much for your comments, much appreciated. As for the prongs, they look to have quite a build up of rust on them, as does the bar the prongs attach to, so I assume these would be made of some sort of steel or metal.
    Still can't get over your collection of buckles, amazing.
