This example is deactivated and its the shortened and alterated to 8mm version, however i dont know if these are common or not.

Hello Nuno-this is one of approx 4,200 Mannlicher M1896 cavalry carbines made by Steyr for Portugal-thus a rare example-good pick up!
PS-the barrel length should be 17.7 inches/44.6cm so I don't think it has been shortened-a cavalry carbine is a short weapon already-also have not read of them being rechambered from the original 6.5 x 53R mm as the Mannlicher clip system is not well suited to doing that.
