1941 M91/30 Mosin Nagant

Ive been gone from this site for some time, but recently acquired this (mostly) matching numbers round receiver 1941 M91/30 Mosin Nagant made by Izhevsk.

This rifle serves two purposes, it is a fully functioning firearm, and the first Russian addition to my WW2 collection.

Also included with the rifle were 2 50's dated ammo pouches, 1 50s dated sling, 1 Mosin cleaning kit, 1 extremely leaky oil bottle, and a bayonet that has 1848 stamped in it.

Serial number is HX6333 on the bolt,receiver and magazine floor plate. The same serial exists on the butt plate, but I believe that one to be force matched as the surrounding metal looks to have been ground down then restamped.

In all, I paid about $175 US for it. Oh how could I forget to mention the thick layer of cosmoline the entire gun was enveloped in!

Nice rifle, it's nice to see more all matching ones out again. They're such a simple rifle, but they grow on you. I have a couple of Izzys, almost bought an all matching one last week. Now all you need is some ammo and you're set. I really like shooting mine.

Ive got a line on an 880rd crate from the 80s with 2 spam cans in it, $200!

I have, erm, 7 spam cans lol 3-340, 3-440 and one is opened but I forget how many were in there, it was part of a deal. The price on these has really been climbing, but it seems like they're sitting on it or aren't importing it like they used to. At least you get a lot in a can

I shoot 12ga,.22,.45,.223 and .30-06, finally a caliber I can purchase for less than 50C-$1 a round!

That's a very nice looking Izhevsk! It seems to be an above average example of the post-war rebuilds the went into storage. It appears to me that the bolt, mag floor plate and butt plate were all re-stamped - you noted the obvious marks on the butt plate. The bolt started out in a Tula (you show a picture of the Tula star, and you can see where the original number was polished off. You can also see remnants of where a number was lined out on the mag floor plate and then polished out. Finally, the fact that the fonts all match on the restamps indicate it was done during the rebuild.

That said, it is a gorgeous example of the post-war Mosins - and an above average condition from an exterior perspective, at least. Congratulation and enjoy!!!

Yes, nice Izzy! Mines a Finnish rebuild and works like a dream! One of the last rounds you can get anymore, it seems! I got 220 rounds online for around $115. Did you remove the cosmoline, and if so, how? Theres a good video on YouTube on how to do it nicely, made by "Iraqi veteran 8888" I think that's his name.
