Article about: Anyone know much about the Brown Bess longland pattern, I'm searching for information on one with a 54 1/4" barrel overall length is 70"

    Anyone know much about the Brown Bess longland pattern, I'm searching for information on one with a 54 1/4" barrel overall length is 70"

    Could you provide a photo ? The 'standard' Long Land
    Pattern was just over 62 inches long with a barrel
    length of 46 inches.........

    With the fact that the forend wood reaches the muzzle, and there
    are four ramrod guides - I'm guessing, but it could be a fowling
    piece incorporating period Brown Bess parts. A competent
    gunsmith could have made a reasonably close match
    to the original military stock.

    Are there British proof marks or anything at all
    stamped on the barrel.........?

    I can barely make them out due to pitting,but it does have the two marks

    The reason I think it may be a rework - besides the length, is also
    because there does not seem to be enough wood around the
    lockplate, and the buttplate seems to sit on top of the wood,
    rather than being inletted into the butt itself.

    Perhaps a pic of the other side of the lock ? There should
    be a contoured brass bracket holding two large
    lock screws.........
