Best Present EVER My all matching CVW45 vet bring back

My parents came thru in a big way today! I was given a cvw45 for Christmas. Its all matching, un-touched, and as honest a vet bring back as can be had. My dad bought it from the GI's grandson who had no interest in guns or WW2 stuff even though it was his Grandfather's trophy brought back from the ETO in '45. It is "duffle cut" under the lower band and period repaired but that doesn't bother me at all as I think it adds to the provenance of the gun. Take a look and see what you guys think! Thanks guys. Ive been very interested in all things WW2 and especially German helmets and guns for a long time. I have owned and still own some nice 98s acquired over the years, but this one due to the rarity of maker code and year takes the cake as probably the most valuable of them all. Seeing as what even all-matching common code/year 98ks are going for online these days, this gun would probably bring a small fortune! Its not going anywhere anytime soon though, that's for sure. This will be the center piece to my collection for the foreseeable future.

Oh yeah, it also had the sling attached to it when my dad bought it from the guy. It was broken about a foot down from the top but still attached. Its a late war, COG marked buckle plain sling with the late war welded/peened cross pin metal adjustment keeper. Im as positive as one can be that it was the sling issued with the rifle. From what I have read, this late in the game they stained the stock by spraying the rifle after it was already complete, sling attached and all. This is why in the cut out there is no stain, the stain actually was sprayed on the sling in this area. This is also why the take down disc and recoil lug appear to have a yellow-ish brown dirty looking coating over them like old dried gun oil. The sling that was on this gun had that residue on it where it came thru the stock. I am having a leather specialist take a look at it and see if he can repair the sling in a way that isnt too noticeable. I would like to keep everything exactly like it was in 1945.

I will, however, remove the old spider web/egg sack out of the hole in the take down disc! lol
