It is interesting how many of these much maligned designs were issued to infantrymen.
The very people you definitely need to have something that works; your freedom and his life depend on it, but you give him something overly complex, unproven technically, and vulnerable to dirt and mechanical failure.
Fascinating too, that history seems to repeat itself for every generation of infantrymen in some respect.
