British Sea Service Pistol For Comment

A great day at the local gun show where I purchased this
British sea service flintlock pistol. The arthritic engraving
on the plate and cock have me a bit worried, but there
are plenty of markings on it which make it look to be
a good, authentic piece - or at least I hope so.

I would be a wee bit nervous about the appearance of the steel bolts head slots looking abit too untouched over the last 2 centuries. I hope I'm wrong,as it's tough to do a good looking over when not in hand, but an early 19th century or turn of the century replica of a Tower pistol? But...if it isn't...it's in amazingly fine condition and an Excellent find! Not many marks at all in that soft brass butt cap!

Hi and thanks guys. It appears it may have been taken apart
and cleaned and the fit/finish is not what I'd expect from
Indian or Italian made guns, as the craftsmanship is
amazing, but I could be wrong.

William, most of the screw head slots do show wear
from being turned. If it is a copy, it's a hell
of a good one.........

In the links above there are quite a few which resemble mine
very closely, and I am not sure about these either. The gun
was rather expensive, but not as high priced as the ones
in the linked examples.........


I also found this link to another forum. The guys there are
poo-poo-ing the posted example:
