    Hi,

In the UK, Police destroy firearms that they are made aware of but occasionally leave the holsters.

This holster suffered such a fate and I have no idea exactly which pistol fits it.

    Can anyone please advise.

I have seen only a small number of holsters with two clipper pockets.

Also can anyone throw light on this holster?

Approx values would be good too (if I am allowed to ask).

I hope someone can help as I have struggled to find much info on these relics.

    Thanks in anticipation.

I believe it's for the Bavarian contract Steyr-Hahn pistols. One order placed in 1916 the second in 1918. No idea as to price.

    Best regards,

Hi Len and thank you for the reply.

Sorry if I sound dense but I am a little confused, here.

Are you saying that the second holster is also for a Steyr Hahn?

Or are you saying that the Bavarian holster of the design of the first one, was ordered on two occasions from the makers - One order placed in 1916 and the second order placed in 1918.

The first holster is the one I was refering to. No idea what #2 is for. Both Bavarian contracts used the same holster (#1). Sorry for not being clear.

Hi Len. No apologies needed and thanks for the info.

Was it the Bavarian Police that placed the order or was it the army, would you know?

Any way of finding this info?

Bavarian Army. It may be maker marked "AWM" at the base of the closure strap.

Hi Habicht and thanks for that.

Unfortunately no Makers Marks are visible.

Looking closer at the other one it has 'Bull Dog Regd' inscribed on the button.

Amazingly a piece of card has just emerged from the deceased's belongings which appears to detail the Pistol, as follows:-

    Pistol Modell 12(0)

    Make Österreichische Waffenfabrik

Method of operation - Locked breech hammer fitted recoil action with breech load

    Capacity - 8 Rounds

    Markings left of slide P-08 Steyr 1916 - 1918

    No 12548

    Ammunition 9mm Parabellum

Capacity in Magazine - 8 Rounds

Yes, it seems the holster did hold a Bavarian Army Steyr-Hahn. The 1918 date and the serial # without a letter suffix would confirm that. The additional "P08" marking indicates it was later taken into Nazi police service and coverted from the original caliber to 9mm Parabellum. I recently saw a similar rig at a local antique shop. The holsters are definitely hard to find , good score!
