A Colt ".45" Twin

Hi,

Two Colts ".45" from my collection:

The first (left on the photo) is a 1911 A1 colt.
The second is also a 1911 A1 colt, but the markings on the slide are not common (see photos).
Who know's this special markings ?
A little help ? 194- ?.

Great pistols and a nicely composed photograph.

I cannot help you with the odd slide numbering. An arsenal rework maybe ?
Do the slide markings match the frame.................?

The 'A1' series was standardised in 1927 and used until the early 1980's.

Thank's for reply, according to books about "45", it could be that this marking corespond to an extremely rare 1945 production, but I have no more informations, I hope that US "45" collectors gives me this informations.

Hi there,
i just saw the thread (a little late i guess) and from what i've read, the slide numbered on the left side and the trademark : COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. .......
on the right side, is a replacement slide, manufactured by COLT.
It seems that your "prancing pony", got a slide replacement, possibly by an Army armorer, sometime in it's life, before it ended up in your lucky hands .
This reduces the collectors value of your M1911A1, as a gun surviving with all genuine parts (as it left the factory), has a greater value (from a collector's point of view. Anyway great duo , with lots of history. Are they dewats ?

The number on the slide is a vendor number code... it is a replacement post WW2 slide made for the US Government.
