Very nice AR. Looks just like mine.
I also have a Colt marked bi-pod for mine. It came from the Iowa National Guard at one time, many years ago with the carry case.

Nice rifle, must be quite early without the forward assist.
Thats correct. The later models have a bolt forward assist, but the early Vietnam rifles have a different flash hider, its split, so one of the Vietnam lessons were to change the flash hider to a circular one, like the one Toecutter has, so that it does not get hang up in the brush.
Also adding the forward bolt assist, because the Colt is a cadillac, but it does not like dirty. So the round would not seat in the chamber all the way when rifle was dirty.
If this rifle jams there is only one way to clear it..
