I think yours is a real British "Pom Pom" not Boer war obviously, see date - but very similar to those ones - mine (the one in the photo with the book) is a French Hotchkiss 37mm - technically NOT a Pom Pom.

So many of these expert sites contradict each other, lol.
Like little fiefdoms where the site managers decide histories details for themselves, lol.

    This subject needs further research.

Here are some pics of the grenade I have. Its 37mm x 134mm, and complety hollow. Maybe it was a tracer? let me know if you have any interest in it for yout collection.
Its a French 37mm message projectile, the info i found confused the life out of me so i hope ive interpreted it correctly.... they were used from WW1 and into WW2,inside would have been a message container a wooden spacer and a small flare which are all base ejected with the flare giving you some indication of the area to look for the message container,up to 3 at a time would be fired giving more chance of recovering the message..

...Wouldn't the flare also let everyone else on the battlefield know where the message had landed, too!

Certainly looks like Feurbach's fired version - how cool!
