Hi Ben Just checked my brass oil bottle it is made by W.H.B, with crows foot and dated 1913.
Il get a pick up of it.

Hi Ben, By the way very nice Inglis Bren you picked up, i have an Inglis 1942 Mk 1, lovely old thing.

A very nice condition oiler Panzer 3, how do you date it to 1913?

W.H. Briscoe & Co., Ltd. is the maker and they are supposed to have produced oilers from 1915 - 1918.

Hi,
as i cant get a better pic of the markings on the bottle i have drawn what is on it, i take the bottom marking as 13, but may be wrong of cause.

Very interesting. I meant to pull out my small collection of oilers last night but forgot. I do have one made by Briscoe but, since it has been so long since I have looked at them I don't remember the specific inspector's markings. If you gentlemen like, take a look at this site:

Lots of information on markings. I do think that the "13" (or letter "B") is an inspector's marking/number rather than a date but I could be wrong. These little brass puppies are fascinating.....

Click on the symbol and it will take you where you will find the info. It shows the "B" or "13" was part of a Birmingham inspector's marking and W. H. Briscoe & Co., Ltd. was in Birmingham, so...... ?
