    No, it def isn't an MG34/42 sling (I have a couple for comparison) the thickness of the leather is wrong (this one is more like the strap on a K98 sling), it is also the same lay-out/cut as an FG42 sling with the K98/MP40 style adjustment buckle. It shows age and has a '1' stamped on it. All metal parts appear authentic and quality period components. I had thought it may be a late war production run sling, but as these are so rare and there is very little info to compare types/manufacturers of these slings.

    I think you have correctly identified the "type", as FG42, but whether it's authentic wartime production is another matter, probably difficult to prove one way or other.
