Hey all, I was offered this Mosin Nagant.
It is dated 1942 but... It has a folding bayonet and is carbine length?
Is it a late/post war modified M38 or some special prototype thing?

My assumption would be it’s a post war modification; the bayo looks similar if not identical to the spikes on Chinese SKS.
Probably an M38 that was converted to an M44 either by the Soviets or someone else that wanted a bayonet on it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an M44 dated earlier than 1944. So I’m unsure if M38s were converted or not but definitely could be.
I believe this was done by the Hungarians in the 50s. BILL

It’s me or the 4 is stamped over a different digit? And Bill is right, 02 is the Hungarian production code.
