My wife asked me what I wanted to do for my 40th and I said Guadalcanal.
Didn't happen. She still remembers me dragging her through the jungle at Santo. Vanuatu.
Got to see a B-17 wreck. Not her thing really.
Doubt that 50 Cal would've fit in my suitcase though.
Might have to go to the Solomon Islands - PNG - one of these days on a mission.
PNG is still a little dangerous.

Dad was based in Germany in the early 70's and said there was lots of stuff still laying around.
He shared a base with the Luftwaffe and there was still wrecks around.
He said they were a scruffy bunch, no pride in their uniforms.
I remember reading a magazine article back in the 1970's that had many pictures of Pacific relics including Admiral Yamamoto's G4M1 Betty crash site. Back then the wreck still had meatball markings and paint. Now the jungle Sun has all but bleached it.
