There are many possible scenarios-the German may have obtained the pistol from non official sources, the veteran may have assembled the set himself from different places at the time or later which his relatives may not have known, it may just be an example of the chaotic issue of whatever was available etc. At this distance removed in time, it's very difficult to know now with certainty.
