Beauties!! And you got a great deal! Nice matching number on the K98!

The Russian rifle is an Mosin Nagant M39. I can't remember the manufacturer mark - can check when I get home. I've got a nice pocket refrence guide on Mosin Nagants. It looks like the bolt has been replaced - does the number on the bottom of the magazine match the receiver? In any case, the fact that it has not been refurbished will add to the value.

M39s were replaced by M44s that had a folding bayonet attached. The stock was modified with an indentation where the bayonet folds back on the right side. Most M39s and M44s on the market now are refurbished and the M39s typically have had M44 stocks put on them. M44s go for $150 and up (Polish M44s $250 and up) while M39s go for a little more ($200 to $225 and up) from what I've seen.

In this case, the mismatched numbers will drop the price slightly, but having an M39 stock and not being refurbished will push the price up, IMHO.

I will do some checking tonight on pricing if you'd like. It will help to know if all the SNs match and what the bore looks like. I've looked for an M39 from time to time for my small collection to go with my M44 and M91/30. I belong to a Mosin Nagant forum and can get some good info from them for you.

    Hey, markv...

Yes everything else does match the m38. It's just not the bolt that doesnt match. Yeah it's nice to see one brought back from the war. I just dont have capture papers on it. The bore is great. When I got it, I coulndt even even see the botton of the barrel until I took my bore snake and it shines like victory ( ok that was corny it just came to my head) haha. Good bore everything. Has the tula marks on it too ?

    greetings bill..,

Yeah iv posted on other wbsites about it and knowbody can give me a straight answere. It doesnt have the lightning bolts and that crap on it. Im kinda glad it doesnt becuase there seems a lot of fakes out there, I know the background on this one, but im saying down the road everyone will question it, you know what I mean. I noticed yours has the bnz shield on it. When I took mine apart, I looked underneath the barrel and it's there. Does it have to have a lightning bolt on it to ber a ss contract one.? Someone was telling me they made a run of them without block letters on it.

what would you think the value if it was just a normal k98 and the vaslue if it was a ss contract

I think Tuula is correct - but need my reference. Not enough coffee yet!

I'll do some checking to give you an idea on value. Are you interested in selling it or just checking value?
