Hi James N,
Just keep looking as there must be some real mint examples not far from you in Texas, there's more k.98's in the USA than over here for sure. You'll find one, one day.
All the best,
D.
These are a few of some of the other examples I have in the collection. They are all used on the range periodically. My parents bought me one of them for my 21st birthday, back then it cost £125 which was a lot of money then.
I hope you like the pics.

My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

A very nice rifle.
Here are some pics of my favorite 98k. It's a Mauser/Oberndorf made in
1935. I bought it from the GI who brought it home (a personal friend). It
has some field repairs to the stock (very nicely done).
Check it out.
Tks,

Hi,
I suspect those are not field repairs but done in the factory from new. Sometimes the stocks needed a piece letting in because of a problem and as with yours it was done to a very high standard and does not detract from the gun
The 33/40 is a matching numbered gun, and a real mule when fired.

I dig your collection, sir.
Thank you, I am pleased you like it.
