Thanks guys. Here's a matching 1940 Herder bayonet with a Kriegmarine frog that came with a complete KM belt/buckle set...match it up with this 1940 Mauser for display sometimes

Looks to be in fantastic condition Jeff. Nice having an early war production especially for the better overall finish. Bayonet is exceptional also. Got my fathers 1940 243 Borsigwalde brought back in 45. Luckily retrieved from a building which was being used as storage facility for weapons and is also completed matching. Prices have continued to escalate on all matchers I am sure you know. Priceless to pieces to hold onto from family. Thanks for showing.

Thanks for the response Mauser9, and your 1940 243 sounds excellent...and even better it's a family bring-back . I bought this one about oh 6-7 years ago, and it was a bit pricey then as the Russian captures had flooded the US market and seemed to drive up quickly the price for a non-import marked K98 especially if all matching. I've had questions about the finish on the stock several times. I see no evidence the rifle has ever been taken apart etc, so maybe this one is also a storage facility find. Any additional info appreciated here

Thank-you for the response. We are both fortunate to have all matchers as the collectors on Gun Boards Forum {KAR 98 section} often quote prices as high as $1500 for unmolested 98s with good bores. I am a novice collector and only have a copy of Backbone of the Wehrmacht which I am sure you have heard of. Have been told it has flaws but is a good book to have. It lists a production of 130,144 for Gustloff Werke for the year 1940. Again nice to see your fine looking rifle. Will try to get a pic of mine up soon.

Great, and yes I have heard of that book, flaws and all. Certainly no expert here on my part, just posting and trying to find more information. Looking forward to pics of your Mauser.
