He does not know what it is.
I think it is part of a M1 Garand rifle or some type of gun
Maybe some type of launcher

With a star chamber like that, I'd say it's a cut barrel of an M-4(M-16) That's the chamber end you have there, but it's been cut very short. Something that was going to be thrown away maybe.

This is what the whole barrel would like, but this is a stripped one, no sights or anything attached.
