The triangle with an arrow means that it was made in an Izhvesk factory.

'1942' is the year it was made-the other letters and numbers are the serial number for the rifle-typically rushed job for the factory at the time so not aligned with each other-the 'hammer and sickle in a wreath' is the arsenal mark for Izhevsk after 1928-the 'arrow in a triangle is the Izhevsk mark after 1945-would have been added to it when the rifle was refurbished/rebuilt after the war as most Soviet rifles were in the 1950s/60s.

Lithgow, where did you get your information? The pre-1928 Izhevsk marking was a bow and arrow. After 1928 it was switched to the arrow inside a triangle. This marking was used until well after WWII. Below is a picture of a 1923 Izhevsk 91/30 rifle in my personal collection.

Finnlander, you'll also probably see a box with a vertical line through it. This signifies that it was refurbished. Another marking that you'll see on the right side of the barrel shank is a circle within a circle. This, if I remember right, is the accuracy proof. There are many more markings to be found, but some are a little harder to see.

I didn't state anything about the pre 1928 marking-my sources are '7.62 net' website and Terrence 'Tezza' Lapin's 'The Mosin Nagant Rifle'. See this Russian Proofs & Factory Markings
