Re: mg42 original or postwar ??? please help me
I hope i am not late
Well,i bought a M53 a few months ago ! Since then i have made my research on these guns and i can point the following (of course ,i may be wrong ! )
If there is no AA mount, then it's for sure a post war clone of the mg 42
As for the mystery of the Nazi markings,i think that it's possible to find them on post war M53s,because every available part was used !
Many captured mg's where knocked down and their parts were used in the production of M53s . A friend had bought a M53 with Nazi stamped bipod

you can see there is no AA sign hole ...so it s a YUgo...there is also a way to check...all the yugo parts have a long digit number .....
there are a lot of small things to identify an original VS a YUGO or a MG3...

look at the post : "MG42 receiver types vs MG53 receiver "
-
if some parts have BK markings its from yugoslavia
-
You must find the bk at right of the picture.
-
Yugo M53, no doubt at all.
-
We've had two MG42 dummies come through that were waffen marked postwar M53's and had the Yugo crests scrubbed off, no front AA mount - they left the computer style serial numbers on the parts, though
I am not sure if it nefarious dealers, or just hobby collectors improving their toys -
