Unfortunately, unless the soldier scratched in his name or his unit's name, there really isn't anyway to know the individual history of your rifle. Since it's a 1942, let's just assume it was at Stalingrad!

Where are you located? My local gunshop has enfields for $200-300. As for Garands, if you're American, I suggest the CMP!

BladeValant546-Hello-If you're interested in the MN series of rifles/carbines get a copy of 'The Mosin-Nagant Rifle' by Terrence W Lapin, North Cape Publications-it's an inexpensive paperback crammed full of interesting and useful info. As far as your rifle goes the markings are: 'Hammer and Sickle in a wreath' is the 1928 to 45 production mark for the Izhevsk arsenal-'Arrow in a triangle' is the post 1945 mark for Izhevsk and indicates refurbishment there-the 'rectangle divided in half' indicates the metal has been refurbed and there is probably a rectangle divided by a diagonal line on the stock indicating new refurb woodwork-the wartime rifles especially 1942-44 tend to be fairly roughly finished as the Soviets were far more concerned with pumping them out the factory-some 17.5 million of the m91/30 rifles were made 1930-45.

Awesome looking rirfle, and its not to bad that it is a refurb considering during that time the rifle was most likely beaten to hell and back. Thanks for the information I only spent 100 bucks on it.

I did do some research into coverting over to a sniper variant, any tips on that as well. I do not want to over spend and what not, I do know I have to change the bolt to bent.

I'd advise against doing it yourself... If you want, you can buy "ex sniper" Mosin rifles and bolt on your own reproduction optics, or you can buy a pre-built mosin sniper... both authentic and repro setups are available.

I would never do it myself, as I am no gun smith luckily I have a friend is a professional gun smith. I will try for him thanks for all of yalls advice, now I need a decent multirole assault rifle (or rifle) that can be used for decent range aswell as meduim range.

I agree, you've got a great representational Mosin, there!! Enjoy it!! If you look down in the threads, you'll see the post about my recently purchased sniper repro. At just over $400, it was less expensive than trying to make my own.

I glad I now own a piece of history which is a wonderful thing. It just thought of who held it last it makes you humble.
