My 1928A1 Thompson

Just had another look at my 28,The top is a savage 3278** but the bottom is an Auto Ordnance 775** and has had the Savage number added next to it,Which might explain the early butt.

With the bottom having an early number,Could that be a 1928 model ?

I think the Savage upper is about 1943 and probably the AO lower also. The AO lower will be 1928A1 as my AO upper (Savage lower) is in the 45,000 range and is a 1928A1, when a 1928 was made into a 1928A1, they added the A1 after the 1928 but the serial number ceased to be central to the above text so its quite easy to determine if a body was once a 1928 or not.

Gary, I've been going through my Thompson book and it would appear your Thompson is from late 1941 not 1943 as I mentioned earlier. The AO lower is from one of the last AO guns fitted with the Lyman adjustable sights. So to give you an idea of production figures for comparison, Savage produced 400,000 1928A1s with the Lyman Adjustable sight compared to Auto Ordnances 80,000.
