My SVT-40

Article about: This is one of the Russian arsenal rebuilds that were inported in the late 90s. Interestingly, it is in an ATV-40 stock (for the full auto model). I understand that many of these rebuilds we

I am trying to get my SVT-40 put together; I need a rear stock-mounted sling swivel. Any ideas on where to look? In addition, could help on installing the cleaning rod retaining piece under the front sight. I have the part and spring but can not figure out how to get the piece into the slot. I would really appreciate any help/ideas some of you may have.

I'm not sure where you are at, but in the States there is a newspaper caled Shotgun news that has hundred of ads by not only large dealers but individuals selling parts. I believe they also have a website. I would run an internet search for "SVT-40" parts.
Gunboards, a website, might help you hook up with someone who has what you need. I just looked at mine and as far as the cleaning rod retainer, I'm scratching my head too. I suspect they had a special tool. This weapon is really complicated once you study it. My action fits so tight in the stock, I actually had to buy a small wood vise to get the action to squeeeze down so the locking lever will lock it .
Sorry I couldn't have been more help. Good luck on your project.

Thanks for getting back to me. I've tried most of the websites I can locate doing the search but it's been futile so far. I appreciate the response.

You can also try Jack First Gun Prts in Rapid City South Dakota. They are a little on the high side price wise but have a good supply of hard to get parts.

    Hi Reg.

You can tell by whether the stock is grooved out on both sides of the trigger guard or not. On the SVT stock, there is a cutout groove on the left side that the safety lever lays in when the weapon is on "fire" mode. When the safety lever is pulled down vertical, it blocks the trigger making the weapon safe. On an AVT stock, there is also a cutout groove on the right side of the stock, as the safety lever was also the selector switch, and when moved all the way to the right side, the weapon was on full auto. So, grooved only on left, SVT. Grooved on both sides, AVT.
I'm curious as to how many AVTs were actually issued and used.
Thats the info I have so far, and maybe Bill or Ade could add more.

Thanks Johnnie, just checked mine and it is also an AVT stock... thanks for posting that, or I would never have known.
