Here is a Mystery French MAS Mle. 1936.. Unusual placement of the serial number and only two parts numbered the receiver on the left top, and the bolt handle.. The bayonet is of the pre war prototype design.. I expect that this might be a German Occupied France assembled MAS 1936 from parts.. The barrel is dated 1940 & the weapon has plenty of dried grease under the wood.....Enjoy this MYSTERY MAS 36...BILL

I have seen a few of these that where put together by the NVA in Veitnam from captured french rifles and some that where home made by the Veit-Cong that look just like the mas Mle1936

    Bill,
I think this is the rifle you spoke of today when we visited..... !! It's much better than you described, and much more intriguing than you told me.
I think all would enjoy how you came about this piece, Sir

Ronnie, It came my way in my quest for German rifles. It was here in my home town, I got it from the ETO Veterans son...BILL

Bill, is that the one you had at the SOS show? I recall looking at one you had there that you said it was one of the Mystery rifles.

Here's my collection I posted on another forum. There's a photo of me on page 8 that may help jog your memory of who I was. The photo was taken about 5yrs ago sitting behind Theodore Van Kirk, the navigator of one of the planes that dropped the A bomb. Add a few more wrinkles and it's me, Ray
