    Default No5 MkI arrived today

so, how did I do? Total cost was $385. Bore and barrel are a little dirty but look good. SNs on wrist, bolt and fore end match. The magazine is numbered so it is obviously a replacement. Almost all parts are marked with an M47 - mostly C and the fore end with an A - or an M. The bolt release looks to be marked with an S. The Rear sight is marked with a B.

I took a bunch of pictures. Hope I don't kill the sever!!!

I also found that some parts have been marked with the initials MJD and the inner channel of the fore end is marked with the name Merl Joe Drudge. Finally, noticed that the right inside edge of the trigger guard looks to be marked with a number that looks like 530-82117. Any ideas on that?

It looks like the stock has been stained and/or varnished, but with prices getting
higher for most military items these days, I think it was an ok purchase.

I don't see the 'Jungle Carbine' for sale too often either.........
    Regards,

    Steve.

I think the flash on my cheap camera just makes the stock look shiny. I don't think it was varnished - not sure about staining.

Well it all looks good, the mag is from a LongBranch made No.4 but you can get brand new unnumbred mags at a good price. The No.5 Mk1 marking is the worst I've seen but the rifle is genuine so it must have been a beginner who marked it. It also retains the original finish as the serial number is still in the white.

M47C is BSA SHirley plant, M47A is BSA Small Heath plant.

I like it and the price seems reasonable. It's exactly what I am looking for as my next purchase for my collection of war dated Enfield No. 4's.
