Hello Ade,

If you do not get a definitive answer on this i can ask on the Russian forum? Maybe someone knows something there. It's a bit interesting as the PTRD and PTRS are not even from the same designer Vasily A. Degtyaryov and Sergei G. Simonov. I would guess it's a wartime production cost reduction modification. I think 60000 were made so maybe it would also make sense to make a muzzle brake that is faster to produce.
