Hello guys, here you can see the main differences between the MG42 and the MG53 receiver:

I´ve allready updated my small comparison and it is available as a pdf-file. Write me an email and you get it:

Hello, I've done a lot of looking here, but this is my first post!
My deactivated M53 has WaA610 stamp on the reciever and the bipod is marked dfb 44. (Gustloff-Werke, Waffenwerk Suhl)
If I had the money I'd have bought a German MG 42, but the differences are so small I figured why worry.
It's still a very nice piece of history.
Mine came with a filthy carbon blacked recoil booster and bizarrely had rice stuck in the rear sight!

    Hi Ian,
All the early m53's I have seen with WaA stamps carry this particular code. Its for Mercedes Buromaschinewerk - not to be confused with the carmaker! They made typewriters (and maybe still do) So perhaps they used to stamp out receivers as well.

Blondi, I've just got a new camera, so as soon as I've got it all set up I'll post some for you.

Harry, thanks for the info regarding the waffenamt stamps. I've never been able to find that one before. I've got George Markham's 'Guns of the Reich' and Folke Myrvang's 'MG34-MG42' books which are a good source of info and I've also googled it before. Never had any luck though! Nice one.

    Regards,

    Ian

If you are in the States rather than buy a deact, which will be expensive, why not go for a parts kit and build a semi auto gun?

This is a specialised US forum just on the MG42/M53. Most of the guys there are building live firing guns. Interesting site and I am a member there:

    http://www.mg42.us/index.php

You will find some links there to US dealers.

    Cheers, Ade.
