a friend of mine had a live one for years and i had fired it once or twice
he always cleaned it with the bolt in ,,he told me that this bit of metal was there to stop the bolt coming out
i had no reson to dis believe him
BUT you have proven him wrong ,, i like a lot of people dont like to use force on things so i had never tried to force the bolt head over it
but hay we live and learn

Glad to help Ian, hopefully ph3s can get his bolt out as well.......by the way there are several different ways of removing enfield bolts, my no.4mk1 savage made enfield is different to the no1 mk111 and my jungle carbine is different again

A hammer?!-not usually needed to field strip a rifle.

Hi ph3s,
Glad you have found out how to take the bolt out, I have No 1 mk3 and No 4,s, but i would recommend if you have to use a hammer for anything on rifles you use a piece of soft wood with the hammer to displace the piece; As you may damage the metalwork, once you strip and clean this rifle you shouldnt have any more probs.

glad to hear it lol, some weapons are a bugger if they havent been stripped for years iv had the same probs, but glad all,s well. they area nice rifle.
