I have referred above to the 'top-side' DT, meaning one mounted for AA purposes on top of the turret. The DTs were used in three positions: as co-axial turret guns (note a bbl with muzzle ferrule sticking out of the gun mantle in the frontal view photo of the T-26 below), as turret mounted 'flexible' or 'top-side' AA gun, usually with the AA ring sight and sometimes with a flash hider, and in machine gun ball mounts - bow guns of the T-34, Komsomolets armored tractor, armored cars (BA-6, BA-10) or in turret rear (T-26 obr. 37, BT-5/7, KV series, T-28, T-35, SMK), or as turret gun (BT-2, T-26 obr. 31, T-37/38, T-28 and T-35 secondary turrets). Here are two photos of Soviet tanks fitted with top-side DT.

OK, enough DT porn, last three photos, showing DT with ground kit as partizan weapon (note S&W Russian revolver sticking from the guy's pocket; some pocket pistol!), installed in the Komsomolets armored artillery tractor (this one captured Finnish), and finally a Soviet superman firing a hand-held DT for camera. Seems like it was freshly taken from the armored car in the background, and no one remembered to use the ground kit. I don't believe this guy would be able to hold it like that if he fired a single shot. Stalin might have been a Man of Steel - this chappie doesn't look like his hands are asbestos-lined...

What an amazing collection! I'm gobsmacked that an individual has managed to amass such an impressive array of historically fascinating items. This is my first post at your fine website.

Hi Guys, here is an extra DT magazine I bought a few weeks ago. Life has been so busy I have only just cleaned it and photographed it.

This one has the familiar webbing band around it, which one other one lacks. So I was pleased to get this and the price was right too

    Cheers, Ade.

Wow that's sweet! Just got back from Russia and gun shops are full of deactivated guns. Wish I could bring deactivated Maxim from Russia here

Can somebody identify this machine gun? Taken in Odessa, no earlier than 20th August, 1941. It's sending me up the twist trying to work it out. It looks like a DT. But wait - there's more! That barrel is very very long for a DT, and the gap between the two connectors appears larger than usual. Perhaps it is a DT with a narrow flash hider / flame arrester? Perhaps it's a DA machine gun (aircraft variant)? It can't be a DTM, because I don't think they were made earlier than 1944.

I just need to know, because i'm making a scale model of the pictured tank, the Odessa Tank / NI. It'd be a very useful reference for scale (seeing as though all dimensions online for the Odessa Tank seem to be bogus). Anybody know how long DT or DA barrels were if they had a flash hider (assuming it is a flash hider on the end of the gun in the photo)? Is there any difference between the DT or DA in terms of barrels anyway?

Pictured tank: Odessa Tank: NI / Odessa Tank 'light tank' (1941)
