Re: steyr-mannlicher..dutch? holland? finland? but HEMBRUG 1917...
The Finnish rifle is a Carcano M38 Italian short rifle in 7.35mm-not related closely to the Dutch production Mannlicher weapons-very unlikely that the Soviets ever captured any Dutch produced weapons as they mostly used 6.5mm non German standard ammo-used locally in occupied countries like most non 7.92mm weapons because of ammo supply problems (although emergency last ditch "Homeguard" use mixed this up by the end of the war).

Looking at it again it appears you have placed the Dutch Mannlicher metal parts into a M38 Carcano stock-would explain some of the fit issues of the wooden stock.

Re: steyr-mannlicher..dutch? holland? finland? but HEMBRUG 1917...
oh boy ,, i was begining to think i was the only one to notice the fit was bad
i worked for sreyer in vienna for 14 months and i know they would never let that out of the factory
there QC is to hot for that
they are perfectionists (tutonic mind)
cheers ian
if (tutonic) is the right word

Re: steyr-mannlicher..dutch? holland? finland? but HEMBRUG 1917...
as i said many posts ago ,steyr still have all the press , and machine tooling ,and gigs to make ,mp38-40 , k98 mp44 they have the coppy lath jigs for making stocks
they could re-produce all of these ,if there was a market
they cept everything
they have all of there wafenampts and ss contract stamps
there has been 3 attempts to steel the stamps ,,they are now in a bank vault
ive seen them
they allso have a complete record of serial numbers
and to witch ordnance depo thoese serials went to
and to the ss clearing houses for the ss private contract
they were , are very thourogh
i would go back there to work at the drop of a hat ,but im stuck with working for the us army in graf germany again
cheers ian

Re: steyr-mannlicher..dutch? holland? finland? but HEMBRUG 1917...
contrary to popular belief
the private contract ss weapons where not up until 1941 made by concentration camp workers
they were made by austrians ,, but under ss armourers supervision
on these rifles and smg you will find minimum wafenamps
they are only there becouse the parts were taken after the normal QC checks
most parts were checked by ss armourers before they got to the normal checks
you will never find a german proof eagel on a true ss contract weapon
steyr proofed the ss contract rifles them selfs
undar the barrel in front of the base plate taping pad you will find a single ss rune
that was the proof / exceptance mark
any double runes ,are not correct for steyr
double runes in a diamond are definate fakes
steyr will wilingly cross ref any serial numbers for any weapon
they are not happy with the fakes that abound becouse it causes havock with there serial no data base
any way sorry ive gone of track here
but i still believe the rifle in question here does not have the correct stock fitted
cheers ian

Re: steyr-mannlicher..dutch? holland? finland? but HEMBRUG 1917...
one last thing an mp40 with a bnz code ,, with a single rune is not correct ,mp38 yes
also no mp 44 were made for any private ss contract

Re: steyr-mannlicher..dutch? holland? finland? but HEMBRUG 1917...
yes Bills stock is a good typical steyr fit
gap for the sights ,yes ,but the breach and action are a tight well made fit
yours is not ??,,bils stock ,, the fit is prfection
the stock you have i believe is not original to the rifle
its not at all what you would expect from steyr
they were /are /to prcise for the fit of your stock
cheers ian

Re: steyr-mannlicher..dutch? holland? finland? but HEMBRUG 1917...
look at your picture no 18
its either the wrong stock
or you have removed wood during your refurb
i think wrong stock
i agree with Lithgow
cheers ian
i allso firmly believe (my opinion ) that an old girl like this should be proseved NEVER refurbed
all history is gone now
value destroyed
cheers ian
