These are 2 of My Favorite Class III rifles. I shoot the Mp 44 quite often sine parts are still available but have only shot the AVS 36 2X. %0 rounds of Norma each time. If a part breaks I am out of luck sine parts are impossible to find.
The AVS 36 was made fr 2 years and competed with the SVT . Some reports say Stalin had a bias against Siminov which prompted the adaptation of the SVT.
I have fired both the AVT and the AVS and I find the AVS is much softer shooting in both semi and full possible due to the muzzle break on the AVS.
I have sen only 1 other for sale in 40 years of collecting. It is a very rare bird.

    The AVS 36

Just thought I would mention some inetersting history about your spectacular Simonov AVS36 ,Sam.

From a book by the late, Dr. Edward Clinton Ezell - in regards to the Simonov vs Tokarev debate.

"Vannikov believed that the tokarev design had been favored because Tokarev was a popular figure" "he was a senior designer and a well known specialist on automatic weapons, where Siminov was little known, and for that reason alone was some what mistrusted"

of interest it sounds like the Siminov was better(production wise too) and Vannikov defended it to Stalin. When Stalin proposed the Tokarev SVT38 a stunned Vannikov stated "But why???" Stalin- "because everyone wants it that way"

Siminov must have knew the value of a muzzle brake too and look how popular they became years later and especially today. one need only fire a AK74 variant to see its advantages.

Awesome rifles Sam.......nothing like the looks of a MP44

I think the AVS is a great gun, the problem I think , was that the muzzle break made the gun look ungainly, compared to the SVT.Simonov designs are excellent, look at the SKs, a much underated gun, which would have entered service much sooner if he had been listened to.

I agree completely. It sure shoots more softly and much less muzzle flip than my buddies AVT 40.

Most of this rifles is still rotten in the earth, the Avs gun was produced before the war, despite the svt was produced trough the war till the end. In Finnland there still possible to find this examples, but surely not cheap
The weapons as a PPD and AVS has been widely used in the Finnish war, and also the first year of the operation Barbarossa, due the soldiers has no experience in the battles, the was KIA with their weapons. Mostly this weapon was equipped for cadre troops and navy ( naval infantry) due they was well educated, to repair, reassembling/cleaning. Personally I've seen them both battlefield found in Estonia and Latvia. Even you can look in the forum for much earlier posts where they are shown
