unusual ww2 signal pistol

Article about: Hi can anyone help me with pinning down what this was used in? i have done the usual serches but not found anything with the thread on like this one. It takes the 1.5 inch cartrige and looks

    This is a later pistol again, but you see it fitted in the aircraft.

    wow all thanks for the info i was hopeing it would be for a aircraft and it looks like it is. i really like the pick of it fitted in the plane the relic is cool also.

    The photo with the pistol fitted shows a Jet aircraft, I've no idea which but you can see the yellow and black headbox firing handle and the braided cable for the drogue gun firning unit (Cable loose,).
