    I believe Eric is correct. It looks like it is loosely based
    on a Remington design.........

    Looks like a 1861.36 cal Whitney to me with some missing parts and used it as a hammer by looking at the bent down hammer.

    Eric nailed it. Thanks now i know what i got and yes after looking at it is a 5 shot. Did they make very many and is one in this shape worth anything?

    Onaroll, I have an incomplete Whitney that is in need of a trigger guard and the "bolt" that holds the loading rod and cylinder rod in place. Your relic seems to have both of these items intact. Would you be willing to part with them to bring a Whitney back from the dead. Thank you for your consideration. Any part you could spare would be helpful. They don't have very much value due to not being a colt or s&w but they are hard to acquire for someone trying to save a piece of history.
