Hi, I have a Webley mk1, and now i found a un-opened ammo crate with .455 ammo. I guess i can not use this ammo in my gun? i think my gun only will take black powder, right?. Some says i can use a caliber called 450 r ? Any thoughts on this?.

If the caliber marked on the pistol is .45 Webley, then you can not use .455 ammo in it.you can use .450 Revolver or .450 Adams ammo if you can find any.

I wouldn't shoot it with Mk.VI ammo - the Mk.I was built with relatively soft steel and intended for black powder only. The Mk.IV was built with better steel, and the Mk.V has a thicker cylinder designed for smokeless - some of the Mk.Is have upgraded cylinders to chamber smokeless, but if its factory I'd stick to handloads.

.450 R would refer to .450 Adams, Fiocci still makes it and marks it as .450 Corto. It was the round for the old Adams revolvers the Enfield (which was in turn replaced by the Webley). It will chamber and shoot in a Webley and is loaded to lower pressure.

Yhe reasons that I would not shoot this ammo is that an unopened case of .455 Webley is a wonderful collectors item worth much more than just shooting ammo...BILL
