Thanks to all those who have opined on this issue. Yes it is driving me mad (not a very long drive) but I have been told by some very knowledgeable collectors that the 41M's have several weak point. They say the stock at the wrist is weak and prone to splitting and the op-rod metal on some is prone to breakage. I don't know how true this is but with parts being nearly impossible to find I hope you can understand my hesitation.

My heart says yes and head says no. I think I too would risk 5 rounds and no more.

    Cheers, Ade

The G41M is not exactly a "quality" peice. I shot mine several times and it cost me a bit getting the dual op rods tig welded back. A fellow collector many years ago took a flat mint example out for a shoot and using new ammo blew a chunk off his bolt ..a matching gun wrecked.
These were engineering nightmares of a fantasy nature. Leave it be and make it the safe queen it needs to be.

I would not shoot a matching G41! Sorry dud but I hear it on the west coast almost every one that owns G43 or G41 that are matching they say do not shoot it! if you want to shoot one, buy mismatched G43 which is about $1600 for one. Instead of shooting a G41 that is $3000+.

You might break somthing as post above said. That $3000+ gun could have just turned into a $1600+ gun.

The only way to know how it feels is to shoot it.
    Go for it mate.
I fire all my guns to get the feel of what it was like.
If it's in tip-top shape then there's no harm in firing it at a range or to bring down a deer.
    Just keep it clean.
Remember, it's one thing to look at it with your mouth open, but it's better to shoot it gritting your teeth!!

As i said previously. I have shot my buddies G41M a number of times so I know how it feels. With Franz1944 post confirming what I had been told previously I am leaning more and more to making it a safe queen.
Once again thanks to all who have posted

I know how you feel but would not hesitate to run a few rounds through it now and then. I have a kar98k and fire it once in a great while with modern ammo which is non corrosive. Ammo is a bit costly by Remington or Federal but have experienced hang fires with surplus. I hope to find one of these this year to add to collection but I know they are expensive. Best of luck

It would also be pointless owning a rifle that was wrecked out of foolishness. The 41M's is breakage prone ...why risk life & limb and the high value rifle for vanity ?.
I shoot everything I collect...hence I got rid of all those self destructing rifles years ago like the 41M and the G/K43 clunkers. A little common sense goes a LOOOONG way.
