    apparently its a towel rail, I'm fully aware of the fact that people started to make souvenirs for the GIs back them so this could well be one of them. Any body out there know anyone who specialises in Berchtesgarden relics ??

    After the war, the Platterhof was used by US Forces and renamed the General Walker Hotel...I believe these items were "lifted" by Hotel Guests looking for a cheap souvenir...

    It looks like a newspaper holder of the type that one used to see in German hotels, but I have no idea as to why it is dated. Dwight

    The statue is 'Gambrinus' - a cultrual icon of beer and brewing.........
