    Hello,

First, let me introduce myself. I'm Ed from Holland, and I'm a collector of advertising and commomorative astrays. Last weekend at a flea market I found this ashtray. Knowing most of the fake ones, I never bought an NS ashtray. Since I've never seen one like this, neither original or fake I was hoping one of you experts can tell me more....

Does anyone have information about this astray ...?

If you look closely you can see the background under the text exist of all little Swastika's.

It looks a bit similar to another ashtray which I posess and what is made as a commerative item for a congress of the Dutch National Socialist party held in 1944 in Eindhoven:

I guess you all know these ashtrays; they were handed out to the soldiers of the Allied forces as a souvenir. They exist is several colors an most have the text "souvernir from liberated Holland"at the reverse side.

Because clay was one of the resources what was unlimited available this was cheap and easy to make as a gift....Most of those ashtrays found their way abroad, they are quite hard to find in Holland....

Hope you can help me with the first one!

    Greetings from (libarated..) Holland,

I agree with Harry. The workmanship is too good for a fake. The time required to make such an item would not equate to any profit that could be gained.

Thanks for your opinions. I'm glad you're thinking this is original! For what I've read on this forum, most first posts about authenticity end up disappointing for the poster...

I've paid € 15,- for the ashtray, I guess that's not to much.

I'm curious about the age. I think it's made during the election campaign for Hitler about 1932. What do you experts think?

By the way, the second ashtray I posted is quite interesting since it's made in januari 1944, the text on the ashtray is (in Dutch): "Schrijdt onversaagd voorwaarts", which can be translated as : "Go on, without any fear". 1944...

    Thanks again, regards,

    Ed
