Not really exotica but still an interesting Item I believe is this small porcelain enamelled plate from Number 1 Deublerstrasse - a residence in the city of LINZ in Northern Austria that I recently acquired.

Ho hum ….boring as ….. big deal, so what?

Well, a little background maybe in order - Adolf Hitler was born in the border town of Braunau am Inn but moved to Linz in his childhood. Hitler spent 9 years of his youth in the Linz area before leaving for Vienna. The family lived first in the village of Leonding on the south-western side of Linz, and then on the Humboldtstrasse on the south side of the Danube.

To the end of his life, Hitler considered Linz to be his "home town" and envisioned extensive architectural schemes for it, wanting it to become the main cultural centre of the Third Reich.

Hitler initiated a major industrialisation of Linz before, and during, the Second World War and it was a major rail hub which attracted the attention of the allied bombers. As such, Linz was always heavily defended by German flak batteries, ranking third in German defended cities just behind Munich and Vienna.

The current building at Deublerstrasse 1 is shown in these two GOOGLE MAPS views (it may well be the period one) and while a young Adolf probably never walked this way past the railway marshalling yards, its battered house number plate is still a nice period piece I feel.

Very interresting thread !Well done !

I took the liberty to mark the position of my parents house in your foto
    with a red dot.
The outlined area marks the large german Luftwaffe Installation
    of the Flakregiment 38.
Back then one of the biggest army installations in Linz.

    Best regards from Linz !
