It's a decorative telegram folder from the Deutsche Reichspost.

These were sold by the post offices, telephone offices, and telegraph offices. Each is a huge folder measuring about 11-3/4 x 16 inches printed on heavy, high-quality cardstock and could be delivered rolled up or folded in half to fit a standard sized envelope. They were popular for sending wedding/birthday congratulations amongst other things and came in a variety of designs, some coloured.

I might add, that the newspaper on the back of the frame really should be removed, as it's high sulpher content paper will only continue to yellow the print, and eventually, the print will be ruined. It's already exhibiting considerable discoloration.

It's in a nice period frame and, aside from the yellowing, the print itself is in decent condition. They make for an impressive and attractive display piece. As said, though, they are not hugely rare, but are desirable nonetheless. I would not be surprised to see a value being asked in the $75 range-perhaps abit more-maybe $100- on a good day.

I recommend leaving it as it is...the newspaper is period German and helps you date the piece...I like it, hope the price is right for you!

Looking around prices vary widely, going on what symbolism they contain, either heavily National Socialist (as above) or more simple, pastoral scenes. Also if they are plain or in colour seems to affect price, but ones like this, being plain and political, appear to be going for anything between $40 and $90 according to condition and where you buy across the world. The colour/political types with images of both Hitler and SA men etc. start nearer to $125 and go up from there.
