German Glass Gobblet

Article about: Has anyone ever seen one of these before? No markings. Just the eagle engraved in the glass. Had it for a number of years and am just throwing it out there to see if anyone could identify. H

I appreciate your (and everyone elses) effort. Thanks for the hard work. I've spent years researching the web as well periodically.

To "mis" quote Churchill, this Goblet "is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma."

Hope everyone enjoyed this thread as much as I did and hopefully someone, someday will provide a answer. But in the end I've learned much more about this with everyones help than I would have on my own. As I noted before, I even know what a pontil is now!!

After reading the recent post of the crystal cup, decided to pull this old one out and add some better pictures. Not easy to photograph, but some nice close up photos of the detailed etching.

You can also see in the top of Photo 2 the oil "sweating" on the top of the rim (12 O'clock position) that I spoke about throughout this thread.

Plus you can clearly see the "brown" tint, although the cup in hand is black.

Double clicking the photos will give you much higher resolution pictures.

    Enjoy!
