Great document, wish I had it for the plaque I own -
As to Hitler, as I was told this by the owners son and Ulrich of England noted the same it is possible that they had to run it by him prior to awarding it? who knows

Being that my first love are the Political awards from the early years, this badge is very special and very rare. My guess is that these badges were awarded by the Gauleiter or other PL to the recipiect rather than Hitler. This badge like all of the official Gau honor badges were Tradition badges and not a decreed Honor award of the Party.

Erich, remember that this is a nice sized plaque (4"x7"), not a Tradition badge, awarded to one of Gau Dusseldorf's Alte Garde. Perhaps the connotation of Hitler awarding it came from the idea that the authorization would have come from the Fuhrer. Would the owner have had the right to wear the Gau Traditionsabzeichen for the Rhineland?

    hi Gents
I have an example of the same plaque. You may be interested to know that the number on the reverse is stamped 121.

    Hi Horst
Managed to secure it at a Dusseldorf auction where most of the lots were coins. Consequently no history to the plaque, which is why I found the thread so interesting. Will attempt to add some photos in due course.

Andy - thanks for the update - Guess you found it right where it was awarded in Dusseldorf to the 500 old fighters. I feel it is a rare item which still hasent reached its peak as far as interest goes.
    Great find.
