I sent it over to a German buddy and he had some issues with it with translation as well. From what I have gotten and learned over the years is that the elder futhark was amended to a degree by Willigut during the Reich. Not sure how far he went but its probably a choppy version and that seemed to be what my guy thought and caused him issue. Ill make a better attempt at photos, but there appears to be two others linked up on the other thread that are easier and I was rushing today and kind of did some hap-hazard and speedy photos. Its handmade Germany and the proofs are in line. Get back to you and thank you.
Another one and there is a third with a different catch.
Agreed; Himmler and his chronies (Willigut amongst them) warped a lot of old Nordic history to fit with their view of how the past and present (pre-'45) should look.
When one ponders the (Older) Futhark, it easiy to see, how it couldnt be made to function for the ideology in its correct form.
Yes, and while I am not expert on the language by any means the Hagal rune catches my attention and is often used by the SS and many times by Himmler. I would assume that amendments to the runic system however would flow over into the NSDAP as well. Its interesting anyway and they had some real weirdo's in the SS for sure.
Never boring anyway. ;o)
Thank you.
Yes, the 'mad scientists' in the 'Ahnenerbe' is an interesting chapter in itself and well worth the study.
The organisation was an amalgamation of loons and respected scientists/explorers, the later of which some clearly just jumped at the chance of state funded journeys. Heiling with one hand and cashing in with the other - bet it seemed like a good idea at time.
From the dialect ist northern germany - so called "Plattdeutsch"

The word "Heiland" stand usually for "Jesus" so it could be a clerical item too.

The television tends to place or align these guys with whacked out mystics. While there is certainly some truth to this and their use of the history is to their liking, the history itself is no less interesting. I have gotten away from SS items in general the last few years as they are quite frankly too dark and overly complicated in both historical context and even organizational context. If one is not careful they could get buried in them and their thinking, its good to get outside of them at least once in a while and take a break.
The Blood and Soil aspect puts you right into National Socialism, but it also introduces your to Richard Darre who is no stranger to SS culture himself. Its really the key underlining theme that joins these two factions. But of course most know that or would recognize it, but some do not either. Strange bunch but great history that never ends. The photo of the woman that accompanied the first brooch I purchased is attached to a Wehrmacht soldier, and this being in appearance the same brooch and now I have 3 to look at based on the links provided.
Well, as mentioned I believe some were quite level headed, but simply looked at the well stocked coffers and ran with the money/funding, so they could finance further expeditions etc.
I agree. Most collectors here are pretty balanced and I respect them, but too much SS will drive an already insecure person with a weak disposition out of his gourd. Ive seen at least one person, who is more or less nuts. When one understands his background, it all becomes clear. Been sniffing too much musty cloth, thats for sure.
